ABOUT

Caitlin Maxwell Hughan is a designer focused on fostering relationships within the often siloed textile industry.

She hand-dyes yarn to emphasise its role as a key connector between farmers, manufacturers and designers.
Yarn can carry information between these sectors, but it’s also where knowledge often gets lost.
Designers frequently lack understanding of their yarn's origins, and there is a disconnect between the needs of the farmers and those of manufacturers and designers.

Aiming to bring the conversation back to yarn, Caitlin uses hand-dyeing techniques like space-dyeing
to create unique patterns, and highlight low-impact practices, such as UK-grown fibres.

Graduated from Central Saint Martins (2015) and the Royal College of Art (2023),
Caitlin works from her dye studio at Cockpit Studios in London,
as a recipient of the Grant-Turnstone Award thanks to the generous support of Holly Loftus & Daisy Tempest.
